Yves Terrien and his wife have been growing grapes and making wine at the Chateau de Haute-Roche in Oudon since 1987. The property was acquired in 1949 by M. Clarac, the French ambassador to Thailand. At that time, the land lay mostly fallow and goats were grazing on vineyards which had been renowned. Yves Terrien's father became the steward of the land and the vineyard was repaired to its original state. Recently, Yves and Annick Terrien purchased the vineyards. The vines look out over a beautiful view of the Loire valley. In 1980, Yves Terrien joined his father in managing the vineyard, which totals 45 hectares (20 hectares in Gamay, 20 hectares in Muscadet and 5 hectares in Gros Plant). The vines are 20 to 30 years old; the soil is schist, which gives aromas of flintstone to the wine. The wine is vinified in underground vats which are temperature-controlled.
Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire: is from the Melon de Bourgogne grape harvested from the stony hillsides on both banks of the Loire river and is well-structured. Light and fruity with an open bouquet and verdant gold colour, it can be drunk as an aperitif and goes well with seafood and fish in sauce. This wine is permeated with joie de vivre. It should be drunk very cool, between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.
Gamay Rouge: comes from the black Gamay variety with its white juice. This wine is very fruity and fresh, with a good ruby color. It goes well with poultry and white meats.
